We are a family owned Dj service. Established in Des Moines, Iowa - 2004 Relocated to Sarasota, Florida August of 2023. My name is Rodney Potter known to many as DJ Flava, and I started Flava Productions with the dream of having no limits to meeting entertainment needs of the masses and have worked diligently to make that dream a reality.

I first started learning how to Dj in 1994 with the the guidance of my life long friend Kerwin Dobbins. He started at a local radio station KUCB 89.3 in Des Moines, Iowa where he went by the name DJ LG at the time. By the time I hit adulthood at age 18, I had transformed myself into the well-known DJ Flava that Iowa’s capital city was beginning to know and love, quickly gaining popularity in various dance clubs and became well known for playing various different music genres as well as working to provide karaoke at numerous bar and grill establishments, school dances, weddings, graduation parties and company gatherings. I went out to work on my own at the age of 24 years old with a loan from my late grandfather in 2004. I will forever be grateful for that opportunity. I then started doing weekly shows at several bars around the Des Moines metro area playing music and providing Karaoke services and became well known for drawing in huge crowds that loved to dance and have a great time.

In 2015 l started doing lights and sound for local concerts and was the opening DJ for several well known artists. Around this time I started hiring employees to cover bars all across the Des Moines, IA and surrounding area however in 2020 with 4 shows lined up for St. Patrick’s Day, venues were shut down due to the COVID 19 pandemic. In Iowa the COVID 19 pandemic had the entertainment, restaurant and bars looking like ghost towns due to mandatory shutdowns and I made the heartbreaking but necessary decision to sell all of my equipment to pursue other means of employment to support this family.

With a fresh start in Sarasota, Florida I have plans to be the King of Silent Disco right here on the beloved Siesta Key and am training my daughters to take over the business. They are chomping at the bit, eager and EXCITED to take the reins. Sitting courtside we have DJ Vi-Pie, DJ Applegator and DJ TruTru awaiting to make their debut in the DJ booth.
